LEFT: HM Queen Victoria, Briar, bakelite Edwardian era button-tip
mouthpiece. This pipe was carved in St. Claude, France on the
either the Dalloz or Lamberthod 3D pantograph (see bottom of
page). After roughing out, they were detailed by master carvers.
Circa 1910 - 1920.

From the Johnny Long collection - PCoL #UK603F
BELOW: French figurals - St. Claude, France
Left to right - Frenchman (smoking a pipe);
French soldier (smoked cap-closed, air passage
through nostrils), US Civil War soldier wearing
the "kepi" common to both sides (smoked
cap-closed, air drafted through the nostrils),
both soldiers with glass eyes; a Viking. From
the Johnny Long collection -

RIGHT: Block meerschaum figural, cased -
lucite stem - maker "Chever" - Turkey.

From the collection of Nickola Krustev - PCoL
UK#UK624F

Nik has been smoking this pipe for several
months and it is beginning to colour nicely - the
colouration proving that it is indeed
block
meerschaum -
not the all-too-common composite
meerschaum passed off as the genuine article in
this modern era.
(Don't ask me how I know this. - Webmaster)
