"Lance,"as he prefers to be
known, is a resident of
London's prestigious
Regent's Park (NW1 ZOO).
Bless him, he can't keep his
pipe alight for more than 15
seconds, but he serves as a
reminder that we not take
ourselves too terribly
seriously.
- JWL, your Webmaster
"... CONTENTED STURNINE HUMAN FIGURES, a dozen or so of them, sitting around a large long
table... Perfect equality is to be the rule; no rising or notice taken when anybody enters or leaves.
Let the entering man take his place and pipe, without obligatory remarks; if he cannot smoke...let
him at least affect to do so, and not ruffle the established stream of things."
- Thomas Carlyle, describing the smoking room of George I of Hanover

(left)
Roger, who has quite the
twinkle in his eye reports:
"My Grandfather told me that he
smoked 'Three Nuns' during the
war - Nun yesterday, Nun today
and probably Nun tomorrow!
(groan)."
AND, Roger shared this pipe smoking tip from "Joaquin Verdaguer and his lovely, quirky book 'The art
of pipe smoking'. When filling your pipe, take a single cigarette paper and twist it into a ball and
deposit it at the bowl's bottom. Then fill the pipe as usual. By means of this filter your pipe will have
excellent aspiration and your tobacco will be consumed up to the last shred. No dottle, no waste!"
But, Roger reports, "I only use it with briars, not in my meerschaum."
